DaMÉ
A fresh new dance collective to hit the Melbourne dance and entertainment scene spreading some Cuban salsa vibes and general bomba!
DaMÉ's four directors are Akshar Apte, Tania De Silva, Maxine Buxton and Gene Segura. All with their own unique talents across the Latin dance spectrum, they are united in the love for Cuban dance, music and culture.
DaMÉ (pronounced da – meh) the Spanish word for “give me”. It is a fundamental term used in the fun Cuban style of dancing Salsa called “Rueda de Casino” or casino wheel. This is the style of dance that runs in their veins!
The collective was established early in 2010 when these four talented and creative dancers, teachers and performers decided to follow their passion. They had gained years of experience from one of Australia’s best known Latin dance schools – Cuban Dance Academy, under the tuition of Director and Artistic Principal Christina Monneron and they were ready to shake things up on the Australian dance scene! DaMÉ teaches, performs and entertains audiences with exciting and high energy dancing that is sure to get you up on your feet. Their innovation and creativity with technique, style and costumes will be sure to leave an impression!
Although expert in teaching dynamic Rueda and Salsa Cubana, DaMÉ also teaches a variety of Latin and other street styles including funky Reggaeton and sensual Bachata. They are also involved with kids and teens salsa classes and in-schools programs, event management, corporate and private functions and community and Latin festivals in Melbourne and around Australia.
They believe that everyone CAN dance and know that dance is the very best way to express one’s creativity, individuality and inner bomba! Their classes are not just technique and steps, but incorporate cheeky Cuban and Latin culture and language in a fun, social and inclusive environment.
Melbourne's newest and most innovative dance collective, Dance and Movement Epidemic... get ready to catch the fever!
